At least it's better than XY's story, even if the villain makes somehow less sense.īest parts: Crown Tundra DLC exploration, cast is fun, overworld pokemon is an enormous improvement Not as dogshit as USUM's changes, but that's really not a high bar.

The story is in a weird place, because I enjoy the cast, but the storyline that ties them together is dogshit. However the utterly outdated art style, infantilized gameplay progression, weird Wild Area pop-in, and awful AWFUL endgame outweigh these improvements. I appreciate Following Pokemon is a feature of the new DLC, which has also made exploration way more fun. Gen 8: I like the pokemon hanging in the overworld. Worst parts: Handholding, no sequel, no remakes, butchered USUM story Ultra Sun and Moon took a step up in difficulty, which is great, but they butchered the story so hard with the minimal amount of effort, making the interruptions not worth it at all.īest parts: Incredible OST, good cast, good atmosphere, alola photo club, USUM difficulty Most of the battles are immemorable, even if we like the characters behind them. However it's a railroad, filled with interruptions. I was invested in the story start to finish on first playthrough. Felt like the Alola region had a strong identity and a wonderful cast.

Gen 7: Favourite story in the mainline games for Sun and Moon. However, when remakes had previously expanded the scope of the previous games, ORAS had even less content than Emerald? It was also waaaaaaay smaller a region, feeling more claustrophobic.īest part: music upgrade, mega evolutions These are salvaged by ORAS being mostly faithful and improved remakes. The story and cast is IMO the worst in any of the games. Gen 6: 3d models are really cute, being able to pet your pokemon is amazing, but I felt like despite the amazing visual progression and the nicer music quality, XY felt like a tech demo rather than a cohesive experience.
